Northern Pekin Club Show 15 January 2012View Printer Friendly Wednesday, April 3, 2013

Ninety one entries, this was down on previous year. Two or three quality fanciers missing (may be due to Scottish National the following week), however still found some quality in the birds exhibited.
Best Pekin and best True Bantam awarded to a black hen excellently prepared and shown by Simon Gambling. Reserve went to a cuckoo female, once again well presented and shown by Brian Carlos. Well done to you both.
Going through the classes the main concern was:
Birds with wing problems (mainly blacks), ranging from just loose to slipped and split. The latter two are not worth showing and certainly not worth breeding from. You must be disciplined and disregard these birds no matter how good they are in type and other points.
The first needs to be monitored very closely, if you have no choice but to use them for breeding.
If unsure in what to look for please seek advice from a knowledgeable breeder, there are plenty within our Club willing to help and share their years of expertise in order to achieve the required standard.
Finally, thanks to Nick, who was an excellent steward and helped me immensely and thanks also to the show organisers for supplying us both with an excellent meal.
